Officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to the 100 block of Lafayette Court in reference to gunshots reported in the area Friday night at approximately 6:15 p.m.

According to LPD, Troup 911 received a call that a victim had been shot in the leg and was transported to a nearby hospital by a family member.

The victim told police he was in the parking lot on Lafayette Court when a yellow work van pulled in the lot across him.

“He was standing in the parking lot talking to his cousin when he saw the van pull up,” said LaGrange Police Detective Ley Wynne. “He didn’t think twice about it and then the next thing he knows he is hearing gun fire.”

The LPD stated that the victim appeared to be struck in the leg by a ricochet bullet. Detectives located evidence that a home on the street had been hit by two rounds during the shooting. There was one female inside the home at the time but reported no injuries.

According to Wynne, this was an unusual occurrence for the neighborhood.

“We have not had a lot of problems in while in that area, so it was odd,” Wynne said. “Neither one of the victims involved had any issues with anyone so they did not know why someone was shooting.”

No other injuries were reported during this incident.

The suspect vehicle is described as an older, yellow work van with a sliding door that is either white or grey colored, according to LPD.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the LaGrange Police Department at (706) 883-2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at (706) 812-1000.
