While the future for Labor Day weekend is still up in the air due to Tropical Storm Dorian, several events will still be available for the community to enjoy.

Look to the skies on Friday for the annual Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival at Callaway Gardens. The festival features a balloon glow show on Friday evening and flights on Saturday and Sunday while the days are filled with various activities for all ages. Activities for Friday will begin at 4 p.m. and end at dusk, while Saturday and Sunday’s activities will begin at 7 a.m.

Tickets can be purchased individually or with two-day or three-day packages on the Callaway Gardens event website or by calling their office at (844) 875-6499. Individual sales are $29.95 for adults, $26.95 for adults 65+, $19.96 for children, and free for children five and younger. Two-day package prices are $49.95 for adults and $39.95 for children.

Sunday will also be the first day interested contestants can enter video submissions for LaGrange’s third annual LaGrange has Talent fundraising event. The funds from the event will go toward the Magnolia Society for early learning initiatives in the Troup County area such as BLOCKS, Success by Six and the Jungle Bus.

The contest is open to any resident of Troup County and only one video per person is allowed. Contestants must have a permanent or temporary Troup County address at the time of video submission. There is no age limit for contestants. Content can include, but not be limited to singing, acting, dancing, comedy, musical acts, gymnastics and magic, but all content must be family-friendly and nothing with fire or weapons of any type will be allowed on stage.

Application must be submitted in the form of general information with a $50 application fee and a link to the contestant’s video. The video must be three to five minutes and can be sent to lagrangehastalent@gmail.com.

Videos may also be delivered to United Way of West Georgia on a thumb drive. Clear facial recognition of contestants on the video is required to identify the individual(s) to the application.

The video submission deadline is Sept. 30.
