The LaGrange Academy softball team is rolling.
With Thursday’s 6-1 home victory over defending GISA state-champion Piedmont Academy, LaGrange Academy improved to 6-1 and ran its winning streak to six games.
While Piedmont Academy is a different team than the one that claimed the state title, it was still a critical game for LaGrange Academy.
“I told the girls it would be a good test of what we are,” LaGrange Academy head coach Charles Parker said. “They graduated a number of kids, but I knew it would give us a good idea of what we were capable of doing.”
Junior pitcher Amber Corley was dominant for LaGrange, throwing a seven-inning three-hitter.
Corley gave up a run in the first inning, and she held LaGrange Academy scoreless the rest of the way. Corley limited Piedmont Academy to one hit after the first inning.
McKenzie Jones had a huge day at the plate for LaGrange Academy with four hits.
Laney Lackey and Kayla McBride each had three hits, and Natalee Waddell had two hits.
After giving up a run in the top of the first, LaGrange Academy tied it in the bottom of the inning.
Jones reached on a base hit and scored on a Lackey double.
LaGrange Academy took the lead with a run in the fourth inning, with Corley’s single plating Madison Petite.
LaGrange Academy padded its lead with three runs in the fifth inning, with Jones, Lackey, Waddell and McBride coming through with hits.
In the sixth inning, LaGrange Academy capped the scoring, with Waddell’s single bringing in Jones.
