Another big day for Troup offense

Another week, another big-time effort for Troup High running back Trey Williams.
While quarterback Kobe Hudson is getting plenty of state-wide attention for the video game-like numbers he’s accumulating, Williams continues to get it done as well from the running-back position.
After running for more than 200 yards in a week one victory against Ridgeland, Williams had another big-time effort in last week’s 68-13 win over Columbus.
Williams, a senior, ran for 148 yards on 13 attempts with a touchdown.
In two games, Williams has 358 yards while averaging 9.7 yards per carry with two touchdowns.
Williams wasn’t the only Troup running back who torched the Columbus defense.
Junior Navantae Moss had 148 yards on just 10 carries, and he also scored a touchdown.
With the game well in hand in the second half, Williams was on the sideline, and he enjoyed watching Moss getting it done.
“It’s great, I love it,” Williams said. “I love seeing the running back behind me do good.”
Hudson and backup quarterback Nick Schweizer were also effective on the ground against Columbus.
Hudson ran for 57 yards on seven carries with a touchdown, and Nick Schweizer added 51 yards on four rushing attempts with a touchdown.
As a team, Troup ran for 419 yards on 37 carries, an average of 11.3 yards per attempt.
That’s a credit to the running backs, as well as the offensive line that opened the holes.
“The offensive line, they did really well,” Williams said. “I really appreciate them.”
As for Hudson, he was extraordinary once again.
In the opening-night win over Ridgeland, Hudson threw for 326 yards with three touchdowns, and he ran for 240 yards while finding the end zone three times.
Against Columbus, Hudson completed passes to five different players.
Zy Varner, who continues to shine in his first season as a starter, had three receptions for 88 yards and two touchdowns.
Varner had six catches for 235 yards and three touchdowns in two games.
Senior tight end Luke Purnell had his most productive game as a high-school player in the Columbus game with three catches for 55 yards and a touchdown.
Mark-Anthony Dixon and Marquarious Kelley and had scoring catches of 57 and 18 yards, respectively, and Williams had one reception for nine yards.
“We worked very hard in the offseason,” Williams said, speaking for himself and all of the offensive players.
