The path is clear for LaGrange High’s softball team.

LaGrange has road games this week against Sandy Creek and Chapel Hill, and if it wins them both, it will finish second in the regular season in Region 5-AAAA.

If LaGrange does indeed finish second, it will play Central-Carroll in a best-of-three series for the region championship, and it will also be at home for the first round of the state playoffs.

First up for LaGrange is Tuesday’s game at Sandy Creek, and it visits Chapel Hill on Thursday.

LaGrange stayed red-hot with a doubleheader sweep of Cartersville on Saturday.

LaGrange, which has won 12 of its past 14 games, is 17-8 overall, and 7-3 in the region.

Callaway won both of Saturday’s games by the same 5-0 score, with junior pitcher Camden Smith tossing back-to-back shutouts.

In the first game, Smith threw a two-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks.

At the plate, Abby Vanhoose had two hits with a double, and she drove in one run.

Jacee Marable had a double and two RBIs, Malone Aldridge had two hits with a triple,  Kirsten Williams had two hits, and Madison Dennis and Holly Lynn each had one hit.

LaGrange scored two runs in the first and third innings, and it added a single run in the top of the sixth.

In the second game, Smith held Cartersville to five hits, and she had five strikeouts and no walks.

Holly Lynn had two hits and two RBIs, and she hit a home run for the second time in three games. Lynn, along with Smith, had a home run in a 5-1 victory over Troup last week.

Also on game two on Saturday, Marable had two hits and an RBI, Aldridge had two hits, Stone had a double, and Smith had a base hit.
