The LaGrange Academy Lady Warriors are flying high.

With Tuesday’s 8-3 home win over Flint River Academy, LaGrange Academy improved to 6-2 overall, and 2-0 in region play.

While Flint River only has one victory this season, it was nonetheless a nice win for LaGrange Academy over an opponent it has struggled with in recent years.

“Not only is it a big win, but it’s a big mental win for us also,” said Charles Parker, LaGrange Academy’s veteran coach. “We haven’t done well against them in about three years. So it was good for us.”

It helped that LaGrange Academy had junior pitcher Amber Corley on the mound.

Flint River’s hitters had no answer for Corley, who threw the seven-inning complete game and struck out 16 batters.

“We had some big key hits, and Amber Corley just threw tremendous,” Parker said. “She’s throwing the ball real well right now. She’s mixing up her pitches beautifully.”

LaGrange Academy finished with nine hits, with Kayla McBride leading the way with two hits and three RBIs.

Megan Allen added two hits, Natalee Waddell and Madison Petite each had hit a hit and an RBI, and Corley had a hit.

LaGrange Academy has another key game today against region foe Piedmont Academy, which won the GISA Class A state title last season.

Earlier this season, LaGrange Academy beat Piedmont Academy 6-1 at home.

“We’ll have a tough one,” Parker said. “Piedmont will be ready for us.”
