On Tuesday, Oct. 8, the LaGrange Art Museum and Chattahoochee Riverkeeper will celebrate the latest work of art by Diederick Kraajiveld with an evening gathering at the CRK Outreach Office on Lafayette Square of LaGrange, according to a press release from LAM. 

Kraajiveld, a world-renowned artist who lives in The Netherlands, is making a scale-model of the Chattahoochee Watershed in his distinct style of realistic figurative work constructed from carefully cut and assembled wood pieces. Diederick visits the Chattahoochee Valley area every few years and chose to make this piece in celebration of Chattahoochee Riverkeeper’s 25th anniversary. 

Back home, Diederick searches for painted wooden planks in dilapidated mansions and centuries-old farmhouses. During renovation, artefacts are thrown into dumpsters. Diederick has an eye for those things and old green, yellow and red flooring from the days Rembrandt was still alive find their way to his warehouse. 

For the Chattahoochee Watershed piece, all the wood will be gathered from local sources, whether driftwood lying on the shores of West Point Lake or planks from a former fish camp cabin.   

Kraaijeveld’s work has found its way into collections on every continent in the world, except for Antarctica. At the moment, his portrait of Rembrandt is featured in the summer exhibition ‘Long Live Rembrandt’ at the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum.
