The annual Hogansville Tower Trail 5k walk and run will kick off the Hogansville Hummingbird Festival season for the sixth year on Oct. 5.

“We have started trying to do some more events to kick off the festival season,” said festival volunteer Jason Stewart. “It helps build up to the actual festival weekend. This is a good way to come, enjoy the weather and be with the community.”

The 5k run and walk will feature a route along the Tower Trail, past the historic homes, through downtown and around one of Hogansville’s oldest residential neighborhoods.

It will begin and finish at Hogansville Elementary School.

“This helps fundraise for the [Hummingbird] festival which raises money for projects,” Stewart said. “There are new bathrooms on the trail that the festival has paid for and hopefully by next year more additions to the trail will be open.”

All ages, strollers and even furry four-legged friends are invited to partake in the race. Stewart said whether you decide to walk or run, the rac is welcome to all.

“There will be tons of fellowship with the people that are there, and it just promotes community spirit,” Stewart said.

The cost of the race is $15 if you register before Sept. 26, and will be $20 after and day of the race. To be guaranteed a t-shirt, racers must register before Sept. 26. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at Hogansville Elementary School and the race will follow after at 9 a.m.
