The Troup Tigers have had Sandy Creek’s number of late.

Beginning with Troup’s big road win in 2016, Troup is 3-0 against Sandy Creek since the two became members of Region 5-AAAA.

Troup will try to make it four in a row against Sandy Creek on Friday, but it’s a big-time challenge.

Troup (4-1 overall) beat Chapel Hill 21-14 to open its region schedule last week, while this will be the region opener for Sandy Creek (4-0), which was off last week.

Troup comes into the game a bit banged up after its close win over Chapel Hill.

Among the players who went down with injuries during the game were offensive lineman Royce White and defensive back Jase Godwin.

The Chapel Hill game came on the heels of another hard-fought game against Callaway, which Troup lost 56-45.

“We’re a little beat up coming off the Callaway game with a lot of bumps and bruises,” Troup head coach Tanner Glisson said. “We’re limping right now.”

Troup will likely need to be at its best to beat a Sandy Creek that is ranked highly in every Class AAAA poll.

After the Sandy Creek game, Troup will take a week off before playing its final four games of the regular season, all against region opponents.

“We’ll get ready for Sandy Creek, and then we’ll have a much-needed bye,” Glisson said.

Also this week, LaGrange (2-2 overall) will look to bounce back from a tough 17-14 loss to Central-Carroll in its Region 5-AAAA opener when it visits Cedartown.

LaGrange had the ball late with an opportunity to tie it with a field goal or take the lead, but Central-Carroll came through with an interception to end the suspense.

LaGrange still has a chance to be one of the region’s four playoff teams, especially if it can knock off Cedartown, which began its region schedule with a loss to Cartersville.

If LaGrange loses to Cedartown, it would head into a brutal three-game stretch against Cartersville, Troup and Sandy Creek with an 0-2 region record.

Chuck Gibbs, LaGrange’s head coach, said the game will be a test of “our will to out-compete another team on a Friday night. It’s going to be do-or-die.”

The Callaway Cavaliers (4-1 overall) will also be on the road on Friday as they try to improve to 2-0 in Region 5-AA with a win over Bremen.

Callaway began its region schedule with a dominant 34-6 victory over Temple, while it will be the region opener for Bremen.

Lafayette Christian School (4-2) will host Georgia Christian School on Friday.

Lafayette Christian saw its four-game winning streak come to a close with a 17-7 loss at Calvary Christian last week.
