LaGrange finishes second in region

CARROLLTON – It wasn’t their day.

The LaGrange Lady Grangers fell to Central-Carroll in the Region 5-AAAA softball championship series on Tuesday, losing the first game 10-4 before falling 5-1 in the second and final game.

Despite the loss, LaGrange (20-10) will still get to host a first-round series in the state playoffs thanks to its second-place finish in the region.

In Tuesday’s first game, the Lady Grangers jumped on top with three runs in the top of the first inning, but they were outscored 10-1 the rest of the way.

Trailing 3-1, Central took the lead with four runs in the fourth inning, and it added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Holly Lynn and Madison Dennis each had two hits and two RBIs for LaGrange.

Jacee Marable had a double and two runs scored, Camden Smith had a single, and Kate Asbell and Mary James Stogner each scored a run.

Camden Smith pitched a complete game for LaGrange.

In the second game, Central-Carroll was clinging to a one-run lead when it scored one run in the top of the sixth inning and two more in the seventh.

LaGrange scored its lone run in the bottom of the third inning to cut Central’s lead to 2-1.

LaGrange was unable to get much going offensively against Carley Fuller.

Macee Stone had a triple and a run scored, Marable and Smith each had a hit, and Kirsten Williams had an RBI.

Smith started and pitched four innings for LaGrange, and Stone threw the final three innings and gave up two hits and two unearned runs.
