LaGrange Academy’s softball team put the wraps on an exceptional regular season with a  6-3 home win over Terrell Academy on Thursday.

Next up for LaGrange Academy (13-3 overall) will be the GISA Class A state tournament, and it will be the number one seed.

LaGrange Academy hosts fourth-seeded Twiggs Academy on Tuesday in a best-of-three series beginning at 1 p.m.

If LaGrange Academy wins that series, it will host the state-championship series on Oct. 19.

LaGrange Academy came into Thursday’s game having lost three games, and two of them were against Terrell Academy.

“They beat us twice, and both games went down to the seventh inning, so that was good to beat them,” LaGrange Academy head coach Charles Parker said.

LaGrange Academy scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take control.

Kayla McBride, Laney Lackey and Megan Allen each had two hits, and Natalee Waddell had one hit.

Amber Corley, LaGrange Academy’s exceptional junior pitcher, started and threw four innings and gave up one unearned run and two hits.

“If Amber’s throwing the ball good, we can play with anyone,” Parker said.

Laney Lackey pitched the final three innings and she was sharp as well, holding Terrell Academy to no hits and two unearned runs.

LaGrange Academy is trying to win its sixth state championship under Parker.

On two other occasions LaGrange Academy finished second in the state.
