The Troup County Board of Commissioners lifted a hiring freeze Tuesday for a roll-off sanitation truck driver position.

The freeze was lifted to fill the position due to a resignation effective Oct 1.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting, two separate re-zoning applications were approved.

Two addresses on Pine Circle were approved to be re-zoned from split zoning: single family medium density (SFMD) and general commercial (GC) to general commercial (GC). The addresses are for 0 Pine Circle and 161 Pine Circle and the request was made by George Smith and Luke Hill of Certified Plumbing and Sprinkler, which lists an address on nearby Durand Road.

“This is a conceptual site plan that they’ve given us proposing that they would put a building here and a fenced in storage area here,” said County Engineer James Emery.

Emery said that Durand Road would give access to the commercial property.  Additionally, a 50-foot buffer would be put in between the commercial area and residential area.

The second re-zoning application, an area on New Franklin Road, was approved from single family medium density to general commercial.

Also, discussed during the meeting on Tuesday was:

– An approval for the Accountability Course Supplemental Grant application. This grant was created in 2015 by the Georgia Legislature and by then-governor Nathan Deal to provide courts with the funding necessary to support the growth of Accountability Courts in Georgia to reduce the prison population.

– An approval for a change to the retirement system that the board move forward with the ACCG Defined Benefit Plan for employees hired before 2013 and that the deferred compensation would remain with Nationwide.
