Callaway’s Cartavious “Tank” Bigsby is in select company.

Bigsby, Callaway’s outstanding senior running back who has committed to Auburn, has been selected as an Under Armour All-American, an honor that goes to fewer than 100 players in the country.

During a ceremony on Wednesday afternoon, Bigsby received his Under Armour jersey, with his family members, teammates and coaches there to share the special moment with him.

Bigsby will play in the Under Armour All-American game on Jan. 2 in Orlando, Fla.

After some introductory remarks by Callaway head coach Pete Wiggins, Bigsby offered his appreciation to those who have helped him reach this point.

“I want to start off by thanking my teammates, and thanking my mom for being by my side,” Bigsby said. “If it wasn’t for y’all, I wouldn’t be here right now. I want to just thank my family for being with me the whole way, pushing me and keeping me going, keeping my head straight.”

Bigsby, before putting the jersey on, smiled and said “thank y’all again. I’m an Under Armour All-American.”

Bigsby has been making an impact at Callaway since he was a freshman, and he enjoyed a breakout season as a sophomore when he ran for more than 1,000 yards.

Bigsby became Callaway’s featured back as a junior and he was brilliant, running for 2,221 yards with 22 touchdowns.

Bigsby has been slowed by an ankle injury this season, missing nearly three full games, but he’s back and running strong now.

In last week’s win over Lamar County, Bigsby had five carries for 73 yards with a touchdown.

Bigsby and his teammates will be in Columbus on Saturday to play Spencer.

“We talked about Tank yesterday after practice, and in conversations with Tank over the last few weeks and months, I know he has great appreciation for his coaching staff, I know he has great appreciation for his teammates,” Wiggins said. “I said this to (the other players) yesterday. Without you guys, this wouldn’t be possible, so I know there’s great respect from Tank to his team and to his coaches.”

Wiggins made sure to let Bigsby know how big of a deal it is to be an Under Armour All-American.

“Not very many people have this opportunity,” Wiggins said. “Ninety people in the month of October will receive an Under Armour All-American jersey, and you’re one of them. I have great respect for the work you’ve put in to get to this point, and congratulations to you.”
