Cougars hang on for home win

In a possible preview of the GICAA state-championship game, the Lafayette Christian School Cougars outlasted Griffin Christian 21-20 on Friday night.

Trailing by six points in the fourth quarter, quarterback Nathan Fain scored on a keeper, and Fain also made the extra point to give the Cougars a 21-20 lead.

In the first half, Lafayette Christian took a 7-0 lead on a Ben Dixon touchdown run and a Fain extra point, and Griffin Christian answered with a touchdown and a two-point conversion to take an 8-7 lead at the half.

Nathan Karvelas returned a punt for a touchdown in the third quarter, and Fain’s extra point gave the Cougars a 14-8 lead.

Griffin Christian scored the next 12 points to go up 20-14, but Lafayette Christian got the fourth-quarter touchdown to win it.
