The LaGrange Academy Lady Warriors staged a seventh-inning rally to beat Flint River 9-6 and secure the GISA Class A state softball championship on Monday at home.

LaGrange Academy won the first game 2-0, with Amber Corley tossing a complete-game shutout.

In the second game, LaGrange Academy trailed 6-3 heading into the seventh and final inning when it pushed six runs across to take the lead, and Corley set Flint River down in order in the bottom of the seventh to win it.

Game two was tied 6-6 when senior Megan Allen launched the ball over the center fielder’s head for a bases-loaded, two-out double that plated three runs.

Earlier in the inning, Corley and McKenzie Jones each had RBI singles, and Madison Petite knocked in the tying run with a fielder’s choice with two outs.

Allen had three RBIs in the game, Jones had two RBIs, and Corley knocked in one run.

Lanie Lackey was walked three times and scored two runs.

Corley went all seven innings to get the win.

In game one, Corley was brilliant, holding Flint River to four hits and no runs while striking out four.

LaGrange Academy scored the game’s only two runs in the third inning.

Flint River’s coach made the unconventional move of walking Lanie Lackey with the bases loaded to give LaGrange Academy one run. With the bases still loaded and two outs, Jones was hit by a pitch to bring in another run, and that was it for the scoring.
