Quilters’ Bazaar on Saturday

Published 6:24 pm Tuesday, October 29, 2019

Pleasant Grove United Methodist’s sanctuary will fill Saturday with handmade quilts for the 38th annual Quilt Show, Sale and Bazaar.

More than 10 vendors will set up at the church to showcase their crafts, canned foods, homemade sausage biscuits, homemade baked goods, BBQ plates and fried pies.

A quilt made by the Pleasant Grove Quilters will be raffled off as well.

“We quilt every week on Tuesday’s from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.,” said quilt member Carol Cadenhead. “This is the only fundraiser we do. We use the money for missions, projects around the church and parsonage.”

Each year the fundraiser brings in approximately $4,000 that they are able to put back into the church.

“This event brings the community together,” Cadenhead said. “It is good to see your friends and to just socialize. Quilting is a classic American art that is going by the wayside. The more people that can be introduced to it, the better.”

In 2018, the quilting group added kid activities to the event to entice more families to come out. This year will feature activities for children again, including a large inflatable slide.

“My favorite part is the fellowship, and I love to sew,” Cadenhead said. “We just like getting together.”

The group said that the quilt show itself is worth a drive out of town.

There is no admission cost for the event and raffle donations for the quilt will be $1 each. The group encourages attendees to purchase more than one so they can raise more money this year.

The event will take place Saturday, Nov. 2 beginning at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the sanctuary located at 170 Pleasant Grove Church Road. The drawing for the quilt will take place at 2 p.m.
