As local children prepare to don their costumes, many parents will find themselves checking the weather, and with showers in the forecast, umbrellas are likely to be every trick-or-treater’s favorite accessory this year.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, there is a 90 percent chance of showers on Halloween, with the possibility of a thunderstorm. Rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch are possible. Meteorologist Adam Baker said that rain is expected to enter the area around 11 a.m. and will likely blow east of the area sometime after 6 or 7 p.m. 

Temperatures are expected to fall into the 50s during the evening. The forecast will also include winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour in the afternoon, and Baker noted that gusts up to 25 mph are possible.

In case of rain, Troup County Parks and Recreation’s Trunk or Treat event will be moved inside the William J. Griggs Recreation Center at 716 Glenn Robertson Drive. The event will still take place from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m., and according to Troup County Citizen Engagement Specialist Rachel Camp, the event will simply work as a trick-or-treat event without cars if it has to be inside.

The LaGrange Woman’s Club still plans to give out candy to trick-or-treaters at the Historic Bellevue Mansion, although President Valerie Cardwell said that heavy rain may limit the group’s usual creative outdoor display. 

Hills & Dales Estate plans to track the weather, and the estate’s plans will be posted on its Facebook page. 

As always, the Troup County Sheriff’s Office encourages parents of trick-or-treaters to accompany young children and wear reflective markings or carry a flashlight to ensure that children can be seen. Pedestrians are encouraged to remain on sidewalks or paths and cross streets as a group from street corners.
