As the sun comes out and temperatures drop, a few events are planned in LaGrange this weekend. 

Friends of LaGrange Memorial Library will host their semi-annual mega book sale Friday and Saturday. Readers are encouraged to stop by the library on 115 Alford Street Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit the website thrl.org. 

According to Dan Baker with Friends of the Library, partrons can buy a paper grocery bag for $5 at the door and fill it with as much as they can. Books also can be bought individually, with hardbacks going for $1, trade paperbacks for 50 cents and children’s books priced lower.

The sale, which benefits library programs, is made up of books donated mostly by residents and features numerous works of  fiction, including large-print versions, science fiction and fantasy. Children’s books for all ages, cooking, history and biography also are well-represented in the latest donations.

On Saturday, families can join Troup County from noon to 4 p.m. for its Touch-a-Truck & Big Machines event.

This event will offer citizens of all ages an opportunity to learn firsthand about various types of trucks, equipment and service vehicles by exploring them and interacting with the people who build, protect and serve the community. 

The event will include displays of heavy machinery equipment, fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, bucket trucks, tractors, boats, a helicopter and more. 

The event will be held at the George Harris Baseball Complex, located at 131 Ragland Street in LaGrange. 

Several Troup County departments and community organizations will be present at the event to showcase equipment and offer educational information and material. This event is free to the public. 

Pleasant Grove United Methodist’s sanctuary will fill Saturday with handmade quilts for the 38th annual Quilt Show, Sale and Bazaar. A quilt made by the Pleasant Grove Quilters will be raffled off as well. There is no admission cost for the event and raffle donations for the quilt will be $1 each. 

The event will start at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the sanctuary located at 170 Pleasant Grove Church Road. The drawing for the quilt will take place at 2 p.m.
