A cab driver was robbed at the intersection of Cannon Street and Whitesville Street Wednesday morning, according to a news release form the LaGrange Police Department.

Around 4:14 a.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to the scene of a reported armed robbery of a driver for a local cab company. According to the news release, the victim reportedly picked up a black male from the 100 block of Cannon Street, and she said that when she stopped at the stop sign, the male struck her in the right side of her face with an unknown caliber handgun.

The victim told police that she thought the handgun had a purple handle and the top was black in color.

The man reportedly told the victim to “give him everything she had.” The victim told police the man took her black bag, which contained an undetermined amount of cash and identification documents.

The man reportedly exited the vehicle on Whitesville Street and ran back up Cannon Street toward Hamilton Road. The Criminal Investigations Section was notified and began an investigation into the incident.

The victim described the suspect as a black male, possibly between the age of 16- and 20-years-old, thin build and medium height.

LPD Detective Ley Wynne said that based on video footage from the area, the suspect appeared to be from 5 foot 10 inches to 6 feet tall. The victim said the male was wearing light color jeans and either a red or orange in color hooded sweatshirt with black in color at the bottom. Wynne said the home where the pickup occurred is currently vacant.
