Two years ago, the Callaway Cavaliers went on the road and saw their season come to a disappointing conclusion.

After winning a pair of playoff games, Callaway lost to Brooks County 31-0 in the 2017 state quarterfinals.

Callaway is hoping for a better result in the rematch.

Callaway (12-1), after beating Douglass-Atlanta 41-20 in the second round of the Class AA state playoffs, will host Brooks County (9-4) in the semifinals next week.

Brooks County, the number two team from Region 1-AA, beat Metter 35-6 to advance to the quarterfinals.

If Callaway beats Brooks County, it will advance to the state-championship game for the first time.

Callaway lost in the semifinals in 2013, 2016 and 2018, and all of those games were on the road.

A year ago, Callaway lost to Rockmart 28-22 in the semifinals.

Callaway fell to Buford in 2013, and it lost to Benedictine in 2016.

This time around, Callaway will play a semifinal game on its home turf at Callaway Stadium.

On the other side of the bracket, Thomasville and Dublin will meet in the semifinals.

In the quarterfinals, Thomasville beat Rabun County 38-24, and Dublin thumped 2017 state-champion Hapeville-Charter 35-12.

The semifinal winners will meet at Georgia State Stadium in the championship game.
