Lady Tigers stay unbeaten

The Troup Lady Tigers continued their perfect start to the season with a 72-51 road win over East Coweta on Friday night.

Leading 19-16 after the first quarter, Troup outscored East Coweta 19-3 in the second quarter to take a 19-point lead at the break.

Troup maintained a comfortable lead throughout the second half to improve to 5-0.

Amber Gilbert led Troup with 21 points, and she was 8-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Gilbert made a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter to help Troup build the 38-19 halftime lead.

Jada Green added 11 points for Troup, and Samarria Weldon and Alexcia Murphy each scored 10 points.

Aniya Palmer and Monyia Murphy had eight points apiece for Troup.

Both teams had plenty of offensive success in the first quarter, with Alexcia Murphy scoring six points to help Troup grab the lead.

In the second quarter, while Troup continued to put the ball in the basket, East Coweta’s only three points came on free throws.

Troup outscored East Coweta 16-14 in the third quarter, and both teams scored 18 points in the fourth quarter.

In the boys’ game, a strong East Coweta team topped Troup (3-2) 69-45.

Leading by 15 points, East Coweta outscored Troup 17-8 in the fourth quarter to put it away.

Troup’s teams are scheduled to host Callaway on Tuesday.
