OUR VIEW: Consider shopping local for last minute gifts

Published 8:00 pm Tuesday, December 17, 2019

If you haven’t completed your Christmas shopping this year, there’s still time. This weekend is the last real shopping weekend before Christmas — unless you really want to wait until the very last second.

It’s hard to believe, but Santa Claus is coming to town in one week.

This next week will contain lots of hustle and bustle as  many locals have Christmas recitals to attend, last minute Christmas shopping to get done, homes to prepare and presents to wrap. This weekend will be the last opportunity you will to take full advantage of the local deals.

Many of the local shops around town will have sales this weekend, and we encourage anyone still looking for that perfect gift to give them a chance. Driving to Newnan, Auburn or Atlanta can take time away from you and your family this holiday season.

There is also plenty to do in LaGrange or Hogansville.

For those who have their shopping done and have the time, Santa will be on the square one last time to hear about what the good boys and girls want for Christmas. He will also be available to take pictures from 1 to 4 p.m.

There are carriage rides around Lafayette Square from 5 to 9 p.m. If you’re in the singing spirit, there will be candlelight caroling on the square from 5 to 6 p.m.

Just like last weekend, this Saturday and Sunday figures to be just as wet. Temperatures will be in the low 50s and high 40s both days, so try to stay dry while taking care of those last-minute holiday errands and details.

Get outside and enjoy LaGrange during these last few weeks of 2019. It’ll be over before we know it, and soon you’ll be ringing in 2020.
