For the past three years, the NCAA has afforded high-school football players the opportunity to sign early rather than wait until national signing day in February.

Four players in Troup County, Jacob Freeman, Cartavious “Tank” Bigsby and Tate Johnson from Callaway and Kobe Hudson from Troup High, took advantage of that opening and signed their letters of intent on Wednesday.

Players still have the option of waiting until February to sign, though, and numerous players from Callaway, Troup and LaGrange will announce their decisions then.

The early signing period ends on Friday, and after that players can’t sign until national signing day on Feb. 5.

Troup head coach Tanner Glisson said “we’ll do another signing in (the new indoor practice facility), and it’ll be anywhere from six to eight players.”

At Callaway, some other members of a talented senior class will sign in February.

Many of those seniors have offers, including wide receiver Antinez Blount, who has one from Valdosta State among others.

“It’s a very special senior class,” Callaway head coach Pete Wiggins said. “We had 13 guys that really dedicated their life to our football team, and trying to achieve a common goal. That’s very special. They’ve helped carry on the tradition of Callaway football. It’s a special group of guys.”

LaGrange didn’t have anyone sign on Wednesday, but a handful of the seniors have offers, and they’ll sign in February.
