Mary Ellen Hill, 95, of Greenville passed away Friday, December 20, 2019 at her home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at Greenville Baptist Church with Rev. Jonathan Porter officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenville City Cemetery.
Miss Hill was born May 21, 1924 in Greenville, the daughter of State Senator Obadiah Warner Hill and Mary Render Hill. She was a descendant of one of the pioneer families of Georgia in particular, Meriwether, Wilkes and Coweta Counties. She was a 1945 graduate of the University of Georgia and a 1953 graduate of Tufts University, Boston where she earned a graduate degree in Occupational Therapy. Additional, Miss Hill obtained her Master’s degree from Boston University in 1966. She worked as an occupational therapist in Boston for many years including as chief therapist at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary from 1958 until 1961 and later at University Hospital Boston University Medical School. Her career concluded while working for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs in Boston and Atlanta.
Miss Hill was a member of the American Occupational Therapist Association and the Massachusetts Association for Occupational Therapy where she served several terms on as a board member and treasurer. Miss Hill also served as a representative of the Occupational Therapy School to Tufts University Visiting Committee. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, a life member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, The Round Table, Daughter of the American Revolution and the Advent Lutheran Church.
Miss Hill is survived by her great nephew, J.P. Hill and his wife, Ansley and their children, Katie, Jackson and Molly all of Greenville.
