Despite bad weather in the forecast this weekend, multiple events are planned that will be worked around the weather.

Friday night will kickoff the weekend with an inside concert at The Depot in Hogansville. Singer, songwriter Corey Kilgannon, will stop in Hogansville on his music tour to play his latest album. The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the listening room and lounge. There will be a $5 ticket price at the door, cash preferred. For more information, call The Depot at (706) 452-1720.

The Theta XI Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta sorority will host the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. parade on Saturday, Jan. 11.

The theme for this year’s parade is “And the dream marches on.”

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. at Granger Park and go toward downtown to the square with grand marshal Leon Childs Jr. leading the way.

The parade has been held for more than 30 years, but this year Pittman said they hope to see a large turnout.

“We want to keep the dream alive,” Pittman said. “Everybody should come out and see the parade. Dr. King worked hard, and he lost his life fighting for people. He wanted equal opportunity for everybody. Everybody should be out there in full force watching the parade.”

For more information about the parade, contact Pittman at (706) 884-2740 or email zeta7ysp@yahoo.com.

For those looking for a service project to take part in, the City of LaGrange is holding its monthly litter cleanup event this Saturday, Jan. 11 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Weathers Honda, located at 1808 Vernon Road in LaGrange, according to a press release from the city.

City employees and community volunteers will be picking up litter along Vernon Road/Vernon Street/West Point Road/Old Airport Road.

In December, the city partnered with St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and nearly 70 people participated in the cleanup. According to the press release, these events are always family-friendly, free and open to the public.

The city provides vests, trash bags and gloves.

Both the MLK parade and clean up event will be rain or shine.

On Saturday night, Pure Life Studios will present, for the third time, Sarah Potenza at 7:30 p.m. The songwriter career includes multiple albums as front-woman of Sarah and the Tall Boys, an appearance on The Voice and an acclaimed solo debut titled Monster, which was released one year after she sang during The Voice‘s eighth season.
