The Callaway Cavaliers outlasted the Heard County Braves 69-58 on Friday to complete a regular-season sweep of their rivals.

The rematch was much more competitive than the first meeting between the teams.

A month ago, Callaway wasn’t tested on the way to a 77-34 home win over Heard County.

In the second game, Heard County kept it much closer before eventually losing by nine points.

Leading 28-22 at the half, the Cavaliers outscored the Braves 28-20 in the third quarter to build a 14-point lead.

The Braves hung tough in the fourth quarter, but the night belonged to the Cavaliers, who improved to 6-2 in Region 5-AA.

Demetrius Coleman led the Cavaliers with 26 points.

Antinez Blount added 14 points, Jacob Freeman scored 12 points, and Javontay Boddie had 10 points.

In the girls’ game, Callaway lost to Heard County 47-34 to fall to 4-4 in region play.

Javonna Bradford led Callaway with 15 points, and Camryn Stargell contributed 14 points.

Heard County led 12-7 after the first quarter, and it extended that lead to 18-10 at the half and 32-20 after three quarters.

Callaway’s teams take a break from region play to visit Greenville on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Callaway returns to region play on Tuesday with key home games against Spencer.
