The Troup Lady Tigers just keep rolling along.

Facing home-standing Chapel Hill on Friday, Troup eased to a 60-37 victory to improve to 17-0 overall, and 6-0 in Region 5-AAAA.

Troup, which beat Chapel Hill 55-42 earlier in the season, led 11-6 after the first quarter, and it extended that lead to 31-14 at the half.

Troup put it away in the third quarter by outscoring Chapel Hill 15-7.

Amber Gilbert led Troup with 13 points, with 12 of those points coming in the first half.

Alexcia Murphy contributed 12 points, Aniya Palmer, Samarria Weldon and Jada Green had eight points apiece, and Ericka James scored six points.

Troup hosts Sandy Creek on Tuesday in a rematch of last year’s region-championship game.

Sandy Creek won that game to capture its third consecutive region title.

Troup won 42-33 at Sandy Creek earlier this season.

BOYS BASKETBALL: It was one of those nights for the Troup Tigers.

Facing a Chapel Hill team that’s only lost one Region 5-AAAA game all season, Troup fell behind big early and was unable to recover on the way to an 84-41 loss.

“They were hitting on all cylinders,” said Blake Craft, Troup’s head coach. “Granted, we didn’t shoot the ball well. We only made one three the entire night. But even if we’d shot the ball well, we still would have gotten blown out. They were on fire. You’ve got to give them credit.”

Chapel Hill has been pushed to the end in nearly every one of its region games, but that wasn’t the case on Saturday.

At 6-1 in the region, Chapel Hill is hot on the heels of Sandy Creek, which is 6-0 in the region.

“If Chapel Hill plays like they did tonight, they can beat Sandy Creek,” Craft said. “The way they played, it’s the best team we’ve played all year.”

Troup (8-8 overall), which had won two straight games, fell to 2-4 in the region, and things don’t get any easier with Tuesday’s home game against Sandy Creek.

Troup visits Cedartown on Wednesday before facing rival LaGrange on Friday.
