Cavaliers lose close one to Bears

The Callaway Cavaliers took a break from region play to host the Griffin Bears on Friday night, and they lost 66-61 in a hard-fought and competitive game.

The Cavaliers were within one after three quarters, and they kept it close the rest of the way, but it was the Bears escaping with the win.

Coming off a blowout loss to Spencer on Tuesday, Callaway head coach Terry Hayes was happy with what he saw.”

“I was pleased with the effort,” Hayes said. “They played their butts off.”

Javontay Boddie had a big game for the Cavaliers with 19 points, and Duke Simpson (15 points) and Demetrius Coleman (12 points) were also in double figures.

Charlie Dixon chipped in with nine points.

Callaway returns to Region 5-AA competition on Saturday with a home game against Bremen.

The girls’ game tips off at 6 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow.
