With the finish line in sight, the Troup Lady Tigers improved to 19-0 with Saturday’s 45-29 victory over the LaGrange Grangers.

The game was played before a packed house in what may have been the final girls’ game in the history of LaGrange High’s gym that opened in 1953.

The Lady Tigers moved one step closer to a perfect regular season, and they have three games this week as they look to make that a reality.

Troup hosts Cedartown on Tuesday and Central-Carroll on Friday before closing the regular season on Saturday at Cartersville.

While pleased to see her team maintain its perfect record, Troup head coach Thornton wasn’t happy with the effort.

“I thought we played terrible tonight,” Thornton said. “Honestly I’m disappointed in our effort. I know we can do better. We just went through the motions tonight. We can’t do that.”

It was another winning night, though, putting the team one step closer to an unbeaten regular season.

“I’m proud of the girls,” Thornton said. “They’ve put in the work. They had a dream coming into the season. As a coach, there’s only so much you can do. They have to get out there and play.”

Darnesheyuna McCollough and Aniya Palmer led Troup with 10 points apiece, and Jada Green and Alexcia Murphy had nine and seven points, respectively.

For LaGrange, senior Madison Coverson came through with 16 points in what was possibly her last home game.

Kamelah Kelley, returning to action after missing time with an injury, scored six points, all in the second half.

Trailing 24-6 at the half, LaGrange came to life in the second half with 23 points, but it was unable to make up any ground.

LaGrange closes the regular season with road games against Sandy Creek on Tuesday and Chapel Hill on Friday.
