Wrestlers qualify for state

Nine local wrestlers, three apiece from Callaway, LaGrange and Troup, have earned a spot at the state finals in Macon thanks to strong performances in the state sectional.

For Troup, Camden Roberts, Kullum Irvin and Michael Irvin each finished seventh or higher in the Class AAAA state sectional to make it to Macon.

Roberts (105 pounds) and Irvin (285 pounds) both finished fifth, and Kullum Irvin (145 pounds) was seventh.

Also in the Class AAAA state sectional, LaGrange had three men qualify for state.

Matt Callaway (145 pounds) earned a third-place finish, Colin Cavender (138 pounds) was sixth, and Jacob Anderson (160 pounds) was eighth.

Callaway, competing in the Class AA state sectional, had three wrestlers place fourth or higher to advance.

LaQuize Gilbert (160 pounds) and Anthony Elliott (182 pounds) were third, and Ladarrious Williams (132 pounds) was fourth.

The state finals begin on Thursday in Macon, and the championship matches are on Saturday.
