HYPE is hosting the HYPE 2020 Polar Plunge for the second year on Feb. 29, this time at Highland Pines Resort and Marina.

Similar polar plunges happen throughout the country, but this particular event goes to help a cause that’s specific to Troup County — cleaning West Point Lake.

If participants sign up for the plunge by Friday, it’ll cost them $20. They’ll get a special Polar Plunge towel and 10 percent off a meal at Sunset Grill.

Signing up after Friday until the day of the event will cost $25, and they will still get 10 percent off a meal. However, organizers can’t guarantee the towel if you sign up after Friday. All the money raised will go to Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and its efforts to keep West Point Lake clean. That’s something everyone in LaGrange and Troup County can get behind.

Registration on the day of the event starts at 10 a.m. and the plunge takes place at 11 a.m. This year instead of jumping off a dock plungers will walk into the water, making a safer event for everybody.

The change also makes it so all ages can participate.

The event will also include fun extras, including a Dash for the Cash contest, where plungers can win $450 if they are the fastest to swim around markers immediately after making the plunge. The event will also award trophies for best costume, biggest splash and best jump.
