TCSO makes arrest in attempted child molestation

A 53-year-old Franklin, Georgia, man was arrested for child exploitation and criminal attempt aggravated child molestation in Troup County Thursday afternoon.

On Jan. 28, 2020, an investigator with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, who is a member of the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, conducted an operation that led to an investigation in regards to child exploitation.

According to TCSO, during the operation, a male who has been identified as Steven Wayne Webb, of Franklin, Georgia, conversed with what he believed to be an underage male child.

During these communications, explicit conversation and images were sent.

Subsequently, Webb agreed to meet the underage child in person and was arrested without incident on Feb. 13.

“Thank you to my team of investigators who are assigned the tough task of working these cases and tracking down those individuals who seek harm to our children and arrested them accordingly,” said Sheriff James Woodruff.

According to TCSO Sgt. Stewart Smith, Wayne drove from Franklin to meet at an undisclosed location in Troup County during the late afternoon.

Webb is charged with criminal attempt aggravated child molestation and two counts of child exploitation under the Child Exploitation and Prevent Act. He is currently being held in the Troup County Jail.
