The Troup Tigers scored five first-inning runs, and that was all they needed to beat Whitewater 5-3 on Friday at the LakePoint complex in Emerson.

A trio of Troup pitchers combined to hold Whitewater to one hit.

Colton Webb started and was dominant, pitching three innings with six strikeouts while working around five walks to hold Whitewater scoreless.

Next to the mound was Devon Murphy who didn’t give up a hit in three innings, and both of the runs that he allowed were unearned.

Grayson Garner pitched the final inning and he allowed one hit and one run.

Hunter Kitchens had a double and two RBIs for Troup, Murphy had a hit and two RBIs, and Caleb McCurry had a hit and one RBI.

Colton Webb and Brett Haynes also had hits for Troup.

It was the first win of the season for Troup, which lost to East Coweta in its season opener.

“It was a little better overall tonight,” said Troup head coach Craig Garner.  “Not much, but a little better. We had a few more hits and had a little bit of success. It’s something to build on.”

Troup will play two more games at LakePoint on Saturday.

Troup plays Cedar Grove at noon before finishing the weekend with a game against Upson-Lee at 2:30 p.m.

CALLAWAY: Heritage scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Callaway 18-8 on Friday night.

Callaway scored two runs in the top of the sixth to get within two, but Heritage busted it open in the bottom of the inning.

Luke Swann had two hits and two RBIs for Callaway, and Kaden Rogers had a hit and two RBIs.

Tucker Starling also had a hit, and Wesley Marchman was on base twice with two runs scored.
