The Troup Lady Tigers, after beating Chestatee 63-37 in the opening round of the Class AAAA state tournament, will have to win on the road if they’re going to keep their season alive.

Troup’s second-round opponent is Cross Creek, and the teams will play at 5 p.m. on Thursday in Augusta.

If Troup wins, it will play either Northwest Whitfield or McDonough in the quarterfinals next week.

Troup (24-1) fell to Sandy Creek in the Region 5-AAAA championship for its first loss of the season, but it bounced back with an impressive performance against Chestatee on Friday.

Troup outscored Chestatee 17-4 in the fourth quarter to put it away.

It was the Lady Tigers’ first state-tournament win since they advanced to the quarterfinals in 2012.

“It feels great,” said Troup senior Amber Gilbert. “We have a chance to keep playing.”

Cross Creek (19-6), the champion of Region 3-AAAA, beat Hardaway 44-38 in its first-round game in the state tournament.
