On Monday, a local Hogansville man presented a custom-made food library to the staff of Hogansville Elementary School.

The structure will be stocked with not only free books that students can take home to read but also dried food items.

This will be food that students at the school can take home and eat, for free, and potentially not have to worry about going hungry for dinner.

For some students that are on the free or reduced lunch program, it could potentially be their only meal of the day. But with the food library, a student can receive a food item that may hold them over until the next day for breakfast or lunch.

Students and families that are able are also encouraged to stock the food library with goods. The food library is not only helping a student fight hunger, but it will also teach other students who don’t go without about giving and supporting others.

We would like to applaud John Floyd for donating such an impactful structure to the school.

Whether it effects one child or 100 students, there will be less Troup County children going hungry in the future.

The school said it will make a post in the coming days on its Facebook page on what its students would like the library to be stocked with. In the meantime, anyone is encouraged to drop off a dried good food item or a book to stock the library with.
