Jake Cardwell turned into a masterful pitching performance to lead LaGrange to a 3-1victory over Providence on Friday night in the LaGrange Toyota Invitational.

LaGrange (5-2) evened its record in the tournament at 1-1, and it will complete pool play with a game against DeSoto on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Cardwell came up big for the Grangers in Friday’s game.

The right-hander threw six innings and held Providence to five hits and one run while striking out five.

Charles Crawford pitched a dominant and scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.

Trailing 1-0, the Grangers took the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth inning, and they added a key insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

With the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Will Flowers came through with a two-run single to bring in Mason Green and Walton Lanier.

In the sixth inning, Charles Crawford’s sacrifice fly gave the Grangers a 3-1 lead.

Leadoff hitter Brant Williams had two hits and a walk for the Grangers, and Crawford, Green and Flowers each had a hit.
