Daniel Martin pitched a gem, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Troup Tigers from falling to visiting Central-Phenix City 3-0 on Friday night.

Martin had a shutout working before running into trouble in the seventh inning, with Central-Phenix City scoring three runs to seize the lead.

Troup was unable to answer in its half of the seventh, and Central earned the victory behind the lock-down pitching of Will Cannon, who tossed a complete-game one-hitter while striking out 12.

Martin, who only allowed one hit through the first six innings, was the tough-luck loser.

Martin pitched 6 2/3 innings, and he gave up six hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out six and walking no one.

Troup’s Carson Garner got the final out of the top of the seventh, but the damage had been done.

Devon Murphy had Troup’s only hit, and it came in the first inning.

Troup will look to get back on the winning track when it visits Spalding County on Monday.
