The griddles are hot and ready. 

On Saturday, for the 25th year, the Kiwanis Club of LaGrange will host its annual all you can eat pancake breakfast at First Baptist Church on the Square.  

Tickets are $7 at the door and include pancakes, sausages and breakfast beverages. 

“Most of all the money we raise will go toward the scholarships for local high school seniors,” said Kiwanis member Curt Snider.

This year the club will give our six scholarships totaling $8,000 through the Kiwanis Club of LaGrange Dr. Robert E Gordon Scholarship. 

“By providing sufficient scholarship assistance, we assure those students are successful in their college pursuit in their respected degree and plan to give back to society,” said Scholarship Committee Chair Elia Baltes. “The scholarship money will help students by instilling a greater sense of belonging —and motivation — to endure their higher education process.” 

In order for a high school to participate in the scholarship; they must offer a Key Club Program; however, students do not have to be a member. The deadline for applications is March 31, 2020. Awards will be presented to students during their school’s honors day.

Snider said due to the popularity of the event, they’ve purchased more pancake cookers to help feed as many people as possible. 

“All the money we raise stays here locally,” Snider said. “It all goes right back into the LaGrange, Troup County area. You really couldn’t go through a drive thru and come out with the same amount of food for seven bucks, much less all these pancakes.” 

The pancake breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. and end at 11 a.m. Throughout the year, the civic club sponsors a variety of local programs, including throwing birthday parties for older adults. 

“We hope to raise as much as we can to put right back into the various programs that we help support each year,” Snider said. “We always try to help contribute to the March of Dimes and Boys and Girls Club each year as well. So naturally, the more money we make, the more money we give back.”

Jackson Services is this year’s corporate sponsor.

Last year, just under 2,000 tickets were sold and more than $30,000 was donated to its various programs and scholarships.  

In additional to the funds raised through the event, Snider said it is great opportunity to spend time with family and friends. 

“The food is always really good, and I think that helps with keeping people and families coming back year after year supporting it,” Snider said. “We are just asking for the public to come out and give back to the community.”
