The LaGrange Biblical History Center announced Friday that it was voted the sixth Best Religious Museum by USA TODAY.

The award is part of USA Today’s 2020 10 Best Readers’ Choice travel awards where Best Religious Museum is a new category.

Twenty nominees for all categories were chosen by a panel, which include a combination of editors from USA Today; editors from 10Best.com; and relevant expert contributors.

The Biblical History Center was nominated with other world-renowned religious museums, including Ark Encounter, Creation Museum, Museum of the Bible and the Billy Graham Library.

“We were nominated with along with some other really wonderful museums,” said Director of Development and Marketing Holly Winner. “We were just honored to make to be nominated for the top 20 in the first place. From the 20 nominees, people started voting, and they then narrowed it down to the top 10.”

According to the center’s website, the Ancient World comes to life through special events like Roman Army Day, guided tours amongst 26 archaeological replicas, more than 250 daily life use artifacts on long term loan from the Israeli Antiquity Authority, and the famous Biblical Meal experience event.

“We all love what we do here,” Winner said. “We love our mission, which is to help people experience the ancient biblical world. We’re so excited about what we get to do every day, and then to have somebody like USA Today validate what we’re doing here, recognize what we do and the gem that we are. It’s just a really cool feeling.”

Winner said that they have been getting calls throughout the community congratulating them on being voted sixth.

“I think it’s always really wonderful when you can say we are USA Today nominated,” Winner said. “I just think that’s always a great little addition that you can put.”

The museum is also kicking off its Easter season on March 10 with a Follow the Cross Walk. The walk follows a timeline Holy Week, starting on Palm Sunday and ending on Easter.

“We hope people make plans to visit us this year if they haven’t already,” Winner said. “We have more events coming including family movie night in April and Roman Army Day in May. We hope even if people have visited us before, and it’s been a while that they come back.”
