The red-hot LaGrange College Panthers swept a doubleheader from visiting Huntingdon on Sunday to win for the 10th time in 11 games.

The Panthers (11-5 overall) saw their eight-game winning streak end on Saturday, but they bounced to win twice on Sunday to take the series and improve to 5-1 in the USA South.

Here’s a look at each of the games in the series:

GAME ONE

HUNTINGDON 4

LAGRANGE COLLEGE 0

Carden Mellown tossed the nine-inning shutout to lead Huntingdon to the win.

J.R. Robinson, who held Huntingdon to two runs in 7 1/3 innings, was the tough-luck loser.

Jack Layrisson and Cael Chatham had LaGrange College’s only hits.

GAME TWO

LAGRANGE COLLEGE 6

HUNTINGDON 3

The Panthers were clinging to a one-run lead when they scored two key insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Spencer Douches finished the Hawks off in the top of the ninth to finish it.

Dalton Brooks started and threw 5 1/3 innings to get the win, and he worked around eight hits to limit Huntingdon to three runs (two earned).

Cal Fuller pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, and Douches worked two shutout innings for the save.

McKinley Erves and Joe Ruth each had two hits and two RBIs, and Jack Laryrisson had three hits and an RBI.

Cael Chatham had two hits, Rhett Mixon had a hit and an RBI, and Jared Alridge and Dawson Weaver each had a hit.

GAME THREE

LAGRANGE COLLEGE 10

HUNTINGDON 3

The Panthers broke open a close game with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and they ended up winning comfortably.

Joe Ruth, hitting in the third spot in the order, did a lot of the damage with three hits and four RBIs, and his two-run single in the sixth inning gave the Panthers a 5-2 lead.

McKinley Erves had three hits and RBI while scoring four runs, and Jack Layrisson had a base hit and two RBIs.

Leadoff hitter Rhett Mixon had two hits and two runs scored, Dawson Weaver had two hits, and Judd Moore had a hit and two walks.

Baley Coleman started on the mound and pitched six innings, holding Huntingdon to two runs on six hits. After Tanner Chafin threw two scoreless innings, Will Queen allowed one run in the ninth to finish it.
