An organization looking to locate to LaGrange will host a prayer walk this Saturday.

“The focus of this prayer walk is unity, hope and love,” Jecole Todd, event co-organizer, said. “But the focus is praying for our community leaders, like our mayor and city government, as well as praying for families and our youth. Just really praying, a prayer of unity for the entire community and beyond.”

Todd said Monique Fikes with Transparent by Faith Ministries in Locust Grove, will move the ministry to LaGrange in the following month and wanted to make the prayer walk happen again. According to Todd, the Fikes hosted the walk in 2017.

Those interested in participating can meet at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Sweetland Amphitheatre.

The walk will start at 9 a.m. and go from Sweetland to downtown LaGrange on the square.

“I am from LaGrange, lived here, and now I have recently just returned about four months ago,” Todd said. “I lived here about 20 years ago, and a lot has changed. It is an area where a lot of people around the region are being drawn here. LaGrange is just living as an example for surrounding areas, and we just want to cover the city in prayers.”

Todd said the group wants to pray over things that are embedded into the community, such as poverty.

“We are believing that things are going to continue to get better and grow,” Todd said.

The event is free to participate, and there is no registration required.

“We want anybody and everybody to come out,” Todd said. “This is important because we care about our community, and we want to see the community grow.”

Unless there is dangerous weather, the prayer walk will be rain or shine.

“We just want to continue to see more unity in the city because we feel that the more we come together and do things together, the more we’re energized to keep growing and impacting the community,” Todd said. “We want to come together because we believe that within our community, we have the resources to help grow the community and help it come together in unity.”

Todd and other organizers have been planning the prayer walk since fall of 2019.

“We had been talking about it since the last prayer walk in 2017,” Todd said. “In September, we said we were ready to do something.”

With this year’s theme, “Unity is still alive, we can’t lose hope,” Todd hopes prayers are answered in regards to the poverty and unity within the community.

“We can come together and make an impact,” Todd said. “We just hope everyone can come out, and if they can’t, then we still hope they just pray.”
