With no rain in the forecast and a multitude of events planned, LaGrange is expected to have a busy weekend. 

To headline the weekend, the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority will host the sixth annual St. Patrick’s Day Block Party, beginning at 4 p.m. on Main Street.

A Dublin native, Karl Drake, the director and owner of the Drake School of Irish Dance in Atlanta, hasn’t performed in LaGrange in multiple years but will be back on stage this year.

“It’s really exciting for me personally to actually come back again to the LaGrange community this year,” Drake said. “Drake School performed last year, but I wasn’t with the dancers myself. We’ve got a lot of fans, we’ve got a lot of friends, and we’ve got a lot of followers there in LaGrange. Drake Irish Dance is very excited to be there again.”

The dancers will perform at 6:30 p.m. at the Show Mobile Stage and at 8 p.m. at the Overlook Plaza Stage.

Also on Saturday night, The Choral Society of West Georgia, in collaboration with LaGrange College, will present the fifth annual Choral Arts Festival. The Festival Choral Celebration will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at Callaway Auditorium on LaGrange College’s campus. Admission is free, and it is open to the public. Seven choirs of all ages will perform Saturday night. 

All choirs will perform two ensembles, and then as the grand finale all choirs will perform three pieces together on stage.

Early Saturday morning, Transparent by Faith Ministries will revive a prayer walk event after a two-year absence. Those interested in participating can meet at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Sweetland Amphitheatre. The walk will start at 9 a.m. and go from Sweetland to downtown LaGrange on the square.

“The focus of this prayer walk is unity, hope and love,” said Jecole Todd, event co-organizer. “But the focus is praying for our community leaders, like our mayor and city government, as well as praying for families and our youth. Just really praying, a prayer of unity for the entire community and beyond.”

On Sunday, Hair for a Cause will host its eighth annual hair and fashion show. 

Hair for a Cause was founded in 2012 by Quita Harmon, who wanted to help the community through prayer and a fashion show that highlights the work of local stylists, barbers, make-up artists and fashion designers. Annually, two recipients facing a life-threating illness will be selected to share profit from the benefit hair show. The show will highlight the work of a team of stylists, barbers, fashion designers, make-up artists and models who aim to provide a one-of-a-kind experience in honor of a great cause.
