The Callaway Cavaliers had their chances, but they were unable to break through against Bowdon on Tuesday night.

Bowdon scored one goal in each half on the way to a 2-0 victory in the first varsity game of the season on Callaway’s home field.

The Cavaliers’ previous home games were played at Callaway Stadium because of wet conditions at Callaway’s field.

It was cancer-awareness night, which each of the players wearing custom-made pink jerseys.

“The guys get excited with the new jerseys, and it’s nice that we do that,” said Callaway head coach Mike Petite. “I’m glad that the school supports us to be able to do this. You want to win the game on top of that, but it didn’t happen.”

The Cavaliers didn’t score, but it wasn’t because of a lack of opportunities.

“We had chances, and it was a lack of being able to capitalize,” Petite said.

Callaway was coming off a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Jordan on Friday night.

Elbin Jacob scored a goal midway through the first half, and the Cavaliers made that lead stand up the rest of the way.

“It was a good win,” Petite said. “Jordan is definitely an improved team.”

Callaway goal keeper John Will White helped keep Jordan off the scoreboard.

“John Will had a phenomenal game in goal,” Petite said. “He played really well, especially on some high balls, which is something he’s been working on really hard.”
