The first coronavirus case has been confirmed in Heard County.

The Department of Public Health released information on the Heard County case on Wednesday night. There are now 21 total cases in District 4 Public Health, which includes 12 counties. Two of those cases are in Troup County.

“Health officials are taking measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect the general public by identifying and contacting the individuals who may have had contact with the Heard County resident who tested positive,” said the press release from DPH. “The household members of the positive case are self- quarantined and in contact with health officials for further instructions.”

DPH has reported 197 total cases statewide, including one death. New numbers are reported at noon each day.

The Associated Press reported on two additional deaths on Wednesday afternoon, bringing the statewide total to three deaths.
