On the heels of a stellar senior season at LaGrange High, Charles Miller is ready for his next challenge.

Miller, a defensive back who had seven interceptions in 2019, has signed a letter of intent to join the football program at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa.

“Me and the (defensive backs) coach had a good little bond,” Miller said. “We talked about what we can do to help me get better and get to the next level, and eventually get to the NFL. I told the coach, I’m just ready to work, ready to go, and just ready to get on the field and put in the work.”

Miller had a memorable senior season that included a two-interception performance in his final game, a loss to Shaw.

Miller’s good work didn’t go unnoticed, and he earned a spot on the all-Region 5-AAAA team.

While the Grangers struggled to a 2-8 record last season, Miller had a great time sharing the field one final time with his teammates.

“I enjoyed being with my team,” Miller said. “They had my back, and I had theirs. I wish it would have been better, but we had fun and played ball.”

Miller plans on doing everything possible to make sure he’s in the lineup when the season begins in August.

“I told the coach, as soon as I get up there, I’m going to be ready to go,” Miller said. “When I touch the field, I’m locked in.”

Like athletes across the country, Miller is having to work on his own right now as gyms and schools have closed because of the threat of the coronavirus.

Miller hasn’t been slacking off, though, as he looks to stay in shape as he prepares for the next stage of his football journey.

“I get up every morning and do a couple of workouts, then I got to the football field to do some drills, just try to stay fit,” Miller said. “And then I come home and do some more before I got to bed.”
