Multiple hair salons and barbershops throughout the community are doing what they can to make money, while being closed due to the statewide order to close all salons and shops.

“We are offering a 20 percent off on all gift certificates,” said Herring House Salon owner Darlene Herring. “I have been selling product, and I just leave it in people’s mailboxes or my work mailbox.”

Herring said customers can order products through her website, herringhousehairstudio.com.

“I also have a powder root cover that I’ve sold to clients,” Herring said. “You’re really not seeing anybody but your regular family, so you can use a little powder cover up and still feel good about how you’re looking. I am sure the whole industry is going to be packed when we get back.”

In the meantime, Herring is giving her clients advice on how to touch up their hair on their own if they don’t want to wait until after the quarantine to fix it.

“When this is all over, people will need their hair done,” Herring said. “I have always tried to make it easier for people to get their hair done, especially when all the teachers got laid off. If I have to hold a check or something like that, I can. If you’re a regular client, you’re going to go back to your regular stylist and they will make it easy for you to get your hair done while you try to get back on your feet.”

Herring said during this closure she has been able to get tasks done she’s been wanting to do for a while.

“I just say, take this time to rest and pray for the country,” Herring said.

Roots Salon owner Jordan Magouirk said her salon was prepared for the closures.

“At first, it was expected,” Magouirk said. “We all knew we would be shut down at some point. We were bracing for impact. We weren’t too Almaden’s with the news. The alarming news came when we realized this wasn’t for a week or two like we assumed. We are closed until May 16. It was terribly overwhelming and terrifying trying to process this all at once. We understand this is for the health of the community and for that we are grateful for having a hand in stopping the spread, but our livelihood has completely changed.”

The top two products the salon is selling is the “root tint sprays” to cover grey hairs also color safe shampoo.

“The shampoo will help their color last longer and right now we need it to last longer than ever,” Magouirk said. “We want our clients to still feel beautiful and comfortable even though they aren’t able to come in and see us for their normal routine color. Also, we are selling gift cards and our everyday products — Dry shampoo and volumizing products. I’ve taken polls on what my clients want most. We are trying to be of service for whatever they may want or need.”

Magouirk is keeping clientele updated through social media and is in the process of doing scheduled curbside pick-ups at the salon once a week.

LaGrange Barber Shop is also offering products for their clients.

“We do have a few products such as shampoo, pomade or beard oil,” said shop owner Christy Franks. “We also are offering a 10-haircut card for $100. That saves you $5 off each haircut.”

Typically, customers normally would have a year to use it, but during this shutdown Franks and her team will make it active for the next 15 months.

Mail your check to LaGrange Barber Shop, 2170 West Point Rd. Suite 11, LaGrange, GA 30240, and the card will be mailed to you.

“Gift cards are available, just contact your stylist or message us through our salon page,” Stafford said. “We can take Venmo, PayPal or cash app. We love and appreciate every one of you.”
