Barnes looks to bring transparency to school board

Frank Barnes has announced his candidacy to run for the District 2 seat on  Troup County School System Board of Education.

Barnes has lived in Troup County for 30 years and is married to Saundra W. Barnes. He is also the father of three adult children, Robbie, Kristy and Leslie.

Barnes graduated from Smiths Station High School in 1975 and received his bachelor’s degree from Auburn University at Montgomery and a master’s degree from Troy University.

Barnes was a teacher for 38 years in both public and private schools. The focus of his career was devoted to classroom instruction. He taught and coached at West Point and Hogansville City Schools.

While working in Harris County, Barnes requested the board of education to change the financial institution serving the 403B retirement accounts of the system employees. Barnes said this effort eventually resulted in a change in plan and vendor for the entire school system.

Barnes is also a member of Tax Relief and Comprehensive Education Reform and has worked in the effort to provide tax relief for the senior citizens of Troup County community.

If elected, he said he will devote his efforts to restoring fiscal efficiency, require accountability for all employees and support and provide resources for teachers who seek to help children reach their goals and aspirations in life.
