Edith E. Allen, of Lagrange, passed on Tuesday at WellStar West Georgia. Medical Center.

Edith Eyvonne Allen, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe F. Allen, Sr., was born on March 9, in LaGrange. She was called home to glory on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.

Edith accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age, joining Burks Chapel United Methodist Church. As a dedicated and faithful member, she served in several capacities as a health ministry coordinator, administrative board chairperson, older adult ministry coordinator, communications chair, and youth coordinator. Belting out songs of Zion like “One More Sunny Day,” “Mother Bowed,” “One Step,” and “How Excellent,” Edith was a recognized member of the choir and served as musician. She also sang jubilantly for the Lord in her community, serving as a member of both the Old Time Spiritual and the Old Ship of Zion. Additionally, Edith was an active member of the United Methodist Women not only at her local church but also on the district level where she held a leadership position as a historian.

As the valedictorian of her class, Edith graduated from Ethel W. Kight High School in 1963. She went on to study textiles and clothing at Savannah State University and graduated in 1968. Many years later, she received a master’s degree at Columbus State University in counseling.

She was employed at Pathways Center as a counselor where she worked for many years and was known for showing tough love to her clients and was very instrumental in helping them turn their lives around. Upon retirement, Edith spent her time at The Active Life, traveling, bargain shopping, visiting people in the community, and spending time with family and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Joe F. Allen, Sr., and Julia Williams Allen; and her niece, Julaunica Annette Allen.

Edith’s legacy of love, joy, integrity, and service will continue on in the lives of those she leaves to cherish her memories: her brothers, Joe Allen, Jr., of Savannah, Georgia and Alfred Allen of Clearwater, Florida; her sisters, Lillian Allen of Decatur, Georgia, Phyllis Tigner and Julia Annette Allen both of LaGrange; her nieces, Julia and Julaunica Tigner both of LaGrange; her nephew, Ira Tigner, Jr., of Silver Spring, Maryland, and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

A private family gathering will be held due to the health crisis in our country.
