The LaGrange Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit recently made three arrests in a large street fight case.

According to Sgt. Mark Cavender, the LPD was submitted anonymous videos last week that showed women from Hogansville and LaGrange arguing and physically fighting.

LPD was able to identify Ebony Bruce, Erica Boyd, Varnelia Smith, Artira Harrison and Roderuana Harrison in the video. Cavender added that they are still attempting to identify two more people. Bruce, Boyd and Smith were arrested and charged with affray and disorderly conduct.

There are active warrants for the arrest of Artira Harrison and Roderuana Harrison.

Cavender said that the fight stemmed from a previous fight from a weekend before at a house party in Hogansville.

“It essentially spilled over to this one,” Cavender said. “They were having a party and words were exchanged and continued throughout the week.”

According to a press release from LPD, the incident remains under investigation as more arrests are expected as a result of the investigation.

“I’ve had a lot of people say that this isn’t that big of a deal,” Cavender said. “It really is that big of a deal because this amount of violence will spin into more violence. As I’ve seen in other fights, where it starts as a fight and then it turns into somebody pulling out a gun and starts shooting.”

Cavender said that these videos weren’t related to any of the ones from the previous month, which displayed women fighting throughout the week on video.

“Another concern is that in every one of these videos, there’s been small children around,” Cavender said. “Not only small children, but you have neighbors who live in that neighborhood and they’re trying to live a peaceful, tranquil life and there’s a big fight in the middle of the street. So, it’s a big deal.”

Cavender said the LPD is worried about innocent citizens getting hurt in the process of these fights.

“For any of these in the future if we come across them, or we get videos, we will be investigating it,” Cavender said. “If you are identified, you will be prosecuted.”
