Harold Earl Smeby

1949-2020

Mr. Harold Earl Smeby, of LaGrange, passed away on May 12, 2020. 

He was born in Panama City, Florida on May 28, 1949, to the late Sigurd Alf Smeby Sr. and Ruth White Smeby. Mr. Smeby proudly served our country in the United States Army. 

Following his time in the Army, Mr. Smeby worked with his brother as a commercial fisherman. He then worked as a carpenter at Newman Construction Company making cabinets. 

He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish, and he was a member of the Troup County Sportsman Club. 

Mr. Smeby was a Methodist and was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Panama City, Florida. Mr. Smeby is survived by his wife, Cynthia Gail Smeby of LaGrange; his step-children, Jonathan O’Neal (Jie) of Auburn, Georgia and Mary Ann Lawhon (Stephen) of LaGrange; his siblings, Sigurd Alf Smeby Jr. (Judy), Michael Leon Smeby Sr. (Sylvia), Edward Glenn Smeby (Sharon), and Charlotte Smeby Bailey (Jim), all of Panama City Florida; his grandchildren, Christopher Martin, Caleb Fleming, and Conner O’Neal; his numerous nieces, nephews, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law. 

Due to the national health crisis, the family has decided to hold a celebration of life service at a later date.
